Job Purpose

To provide expert advice, guidance, and oversight on child protection and safeguarding matters, ensuring the Council meets its statutory responsibilities to protect children and promote their welfare.

Responsibilities

Provide specialist advice to social workers, managers, and partner agencies on child protection and safeguarding issues.

Support strategy discussions, child protection conferences, and core group meetings.

Ensure compliance with statutory frameworks, including Children Act legislation and safeguarding procedures.

Monitor and review child protection cases to ensure best practice and positive outcomes.

Contribute to risk assessments and decision-making in complex and high-risk cases.

Deliver training and guidance to staff on safeguarding policies and procedures.

Liaise with multi-agency partners (e.g. police, health, education) to ensure coordinated safeguarding responses.

Support audits, inspections, and service improvement initiatives.

Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality in line with data protection requirements.
