Job Description:

Contract to start ASAP until 30-06-26 with a possible extension.

JOB PURPOSE

To manage, shape and drive improvements in the delivery of the Merton Transport Services (MTS) managed passenger journeys, providing operational oversight and leadership for all aspects of services delivered.

To be responsible for the direct management of the team of Drivers and Passenger Assistants, working with the Passenger and Fleet Transport Manager and the Transport Operations Safety Manager to deliver services efficiently.

To lead and manage the operation of these functions in accordance with road traffic and other legislation as well as the core principles, key aims and priorities as defined in the Target Operating Model, Business Plan, Divisional plan, and Member priorities.

To ensure that all services are cost effective, adopting a commercial approach to all services, delivering to the highest possible standards and in accordance wit legislative and regulatory requirements.

To ensure that all safeguarding and regulatory requirements are met, including DBS checks and that driving hours are recorded in line with legislation.

To achieve high levels of communication and staff motivation through an open and responsive management style, monitoring individual and team performance in a systematic manner, including measuring performance against agreed objectives.

Responsibilities

To ensure the effective and efficient provision of a comprehensive passenger transport service and the objective monitoring and reporting of performance

To continuously monitor the standards of work of driver/attendants and passenger assistants ensuring their certification in relation to their enhanced DBS status, Driver CPC, Midas, PATs and any other relevant training

To carry out spot checks on vehicles to ensure safety and legal requirements are being met.

To train and/or assist in training drivers, passenger assistants and other staff temporarily allocated to the service area. Identify training needs and arrange suitable staff training and development in conjunction with the Passenger and Fleet Transport Manager.

Establish appropriate training and working systems to record training taken and positively manage risks.

Ensure staff are trained and motivated to carry out their duties safely.
