Solicitor – Property, Planning & Commercial Law

We are recruiting for an experienced Solicitor to join a busy Local Authority Legal Services team. This full-time role offers the opportunity to provide expert legal advice and representation across a range of matters, with a particular focus on Property, Planning, Highways, Rights of Way and Commercial Law.

You will manage your own caseload, provide legal advice to internal departments and external clients, represent the Council in legal proceedings, and support major commercial and development projects. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a high-quality legal service while ensuring compliance with current legislation and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload across Property, Planning, Highways, Rights of Way and Commercial Law.
  • Provide legal advice, guidance and representation to internal and external clients.
  • Draft, review and negotiate legal agreements, contracts and other legal documents.
  • Represent the Council in legal proceedings, hearings and meetings where required.
  • Support major commercial, regeneration and development projects.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and legal practice.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, government bodies and external organisations.
  • Support and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate.
  • Deputise for Senior Solicitors when required.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate.
  • Experience in Property, Planning, Highways, Rights of Way, Commercial Law or a related legal discipline.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy and varied caseload independently.
  • Experience within Local Government or advising public sector clients is desirable.
