Caretaker
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 20-08-26 with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
The Caretaker is responsible for maintaining estates and communal areas in a clean, safe and welcoming condition for residents and visitors.
This includes completing scheduled cleaning tasks, operating and maintaining equipment appropriately, and adhering to Health and Safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment.
Working as part of a team, the Caretaker collaborates with colleagues, residents and relevant teams to respond to estate incidents, assist with waste management and support the smooth delivery of housing services.
The role also involves identifying opportunities to improve service efficiency and quality.
A key focus of the role is delivering high standards of customer service, responding to residents' needs and ensuring all duties are performed in line with council policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct.
The Caretaker is expected to maintain accurate records, report defects or issues promptly and contribute to the overall objectives of the Estate Services team.
Responsibilities:
Complete cleaning tasks in compliance with defined or amended schedules, frequencies and methods or as directed by Caretaking Team Leader.
Use equipment and technology as directed and provided for the better performance of the required duties.
Achieve cleaning requirements set out in the local work programme using appropriate equipment and chemicals in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines.
Carry out monthly Health and Safety and Fire Risk inspection of all communal internal and external areas, keeping written or electronic records and deal with any identified defects or safety concerns where possible or report them to the relevant department.
Promptly report all matters discovered during duties, which might prejudice the Health and Safety or wellbeing of staff, residents or visitors to the housing estates, taking immediate action to make safe where possible.
Be responsible for the control, safekeeping and day-to-day maintenance of equipment.
Take measures during adverse weather, including clearing snow, leaf removal and the application of salt or other methods as directed, to maintain safe access to dwellings and common parts of housing estates.
Remove bulk refuse deposited within the estate to a designated collection point, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
The Council reserves the right to change working patterns in the future to ensure that the hours of service reflect the needs of residents.
