Refuse and Recycling Driver/Loader
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP
Duration: 24 weeks with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
The Refuse and Recycling Driver/Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient collection of household waste, recycling, and other designated materials across Conwy County Borough.
The post holder will drive refuse collection vehicles where authorised and participate in loading duties, ensuring a high standard of customer service while complying with health and safety legislation, Council policies, and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
Driving Duties
Safely operate refuse collection vehicles in accordance with road traffic legislation and Council procedures.
Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections and complete defect reports.
Ensure vehicles are driven responsibly, safely, and efficiently at all times.
Report vehicle faults, accidents, or incidents promptly.
Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of allocated vehicles.
Loading Duties
Collect household waste, recycling, food waste, and garden waste from designated collection routes.
Load waste and recyclable materials safely and efficiently into collection vehicles.
Return bins and containers to an appropriate position after collection.
Assist with bulky waste collections and other environmental services as required.
Identify and report contaminated recycling or inaccessible collections.
Health & Safety
Follow safe working practices and manual handling procedures.
Wear and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Conduct work in compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation and Council policies.
Report hazards, near misses, and accidents promptly.
Promote safe working practices within the team.
