Committee Services Manager
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP
DUration: 26 weeks with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
This post is responsible for coordinating and managing the work of the Committee Services Team, ensuring the effective, efficient and customer focused delivery of high-quality support and administration to the Council's decision making and scrutiny committees, panels, boards and working groups.
This includes striving for continuous improvement of the service.
The postholder will play a key role in ensuring transparency, good governance and compliance with statutory and constitutional requirements.
The post holder has specific personal responsibility for supporting meetings of the Council and Cabinet and ensuring the team support all other committees, panels etc.
To personally support and advise officers on the Scheme of Delegations and decision-making ensuring all decisions are made in accordance with law and the Council's Constitution.
The role will also need to ensure the service is able to support a range of other meetings including key partnerships, internal working groups and other meetings as directed and undertakes a range of related duties i.e. support for the Monitoring Officer, review of Members' Allowances, maintenance of the Member and Officer Register of Gifts and Hospitality, developing Members' Intranet etc
To plan, organise and direct at a strategic level the provision of committee services to the Council and on an on-going basis to meet the democratic needs and requirements of the Council.
To work pro-actively with elected Members to support and develop their roles and capacity in line with the principles of good governance.
