Senior Cloud Engineer
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 30-10-26 with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
Lead on designing, delivering and optimising self-service cloud infrastructure, operating systems, and business applications to ensure that our platforms and services are secure, high performing and sustainable.
Ensure delivery of a high quality user experience for software engineers, suppliers and other users needing access to cloud infrastructure.
Support the delivery of services in the cloud so that they remain available to users at all times; that faults and incidents are tackled methodically and improvements fed into the backlog.
Deliver, implement and support others to ensure that the Council's values and practises always meet our objectives for security, financial prudence and transparency, inclusion and sustainability.
Actively contribute to the work of a multidisciplinary team, so that all its members benefit from your core skills; promote the generous sharing of expertise and create opportunities for continuous learning and development.
Actively contribute to Council-wide and directorate initiatives that will achieve and implement the Mayor's priorities and corporate objectives and meet the user needs of Hackney's residents and businesses.
On a rota basis with other Senior managers and the Head of service, act as the lead officer ensuring the effective coordination and delivery of support to users, including out of hours support where applicable, for which additional payment will be offered.
Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain operating systems and business applications, ensuring they are integrated effectively with the broader cloud infrastructure.
Define, analyse, plan, forecast, measure, maintain and improve all aspects of the availability and capacity of services.
Ensure the correct implementation of standards and procedures, identify capacity issues specifying and instigating the required changes and know how to initiate remedial action.
Analyse current processes, identify and implement opportunities to optimise processes, and lead and develop a team of experts to deliver service improvements.
Help to evaluate and establish requirements for the implementation of changes by setting policy and standards.
Understand and know how to use a modern standards approach competently and guide others to use it as well.
Collaborate with others to develop and review specifications and use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using standards and tools compatible with relevant architectures, strategies, policies, standards and practices.
Apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design workable prototypes, both programs and physical outputs, approaching prototyping as a team activity.
Establish design patterns and iterate them and use a variety of methods of prototyping and choose the most appropriate ones.
Design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity.
Select appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively.
Review the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and the integration of multiple systems and technology.
