Job Purpose

The Temporary Accommodation Reduction Officer is responsible for reducing the use of temporary accommodation by supporting households to secure suitable long-term housing solutions.

Working within the Housing Services team, the post holder will proactively manage a caseload of households placed in temporary accommodation, identify opportunities to move clients into settled accommodation, and work collaboratively with internal departments, registered providers, landlords, and partner agencies to achieve positive housing outcomes while ensuring compliance with homelessness legislation.

To provide specialist support in reducing temporary accommodation use by matching suitable customers to a range of properties in the Private Sector sourced through our range of schemes.

To minimise admissions into temporary accommodation through timely offers at the earlier stages of the homelessness journey and maximising exit out of temporary accommodation through effective use of other private sector options.

Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of households living in temporary accommodation, ensuring timely progression towards settled housing.

Develop and implement personalised move-on plans in partnership with applicants.

Identify and secure suitable housing options, including social housing, private rented sector accommodation, supported housing, and other appropriate move-on solutions.

Work proactively to reduce the length of stay in temporary accommodation and contribute to reducing overall temporary accommodation numbers.

Liaise with landlords, letting agents, housing associations, and accommodation providers to source suitable accommodation.

Conduct affordability assessments and advise applicants on housing options, tenancy sustainment, and financial support.

Ensure all casework complies with relevant housing legislation, statutory guidance, and Council policies, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using the Council's housing management systems.
