Homeless Prevention Officer
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 15-09-26 with a possible extension.
We are looking for an experienced Homeless Prevention Officer to join a busy Housing team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals and families at risk of homelessness by providing high-quality housing advice, carrying out statutory assessments and delivering effective homelessness prevention services.
You will manage a varied caseload, undertaking housing options and support needs assessments, making statutory homelessness decisions and working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to achieve positive outcomes. The successful candidate will adopt a person-centred, trauma-informed approach while supporting vulnerable individuals with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of homelessness prevention and relief cases.
- Carry out housing options interviews and comprehensive support needs assessments.
- Prevent homelessness by identifying appropriate housing solutions and support pathways.
- Make statutory homelessness decisions in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Develop Personalised Housing Plans and work with applicants to achieve sustainable housing outcomes.
- Liaise with landlords, accommodation providers, support agencies and community partners.
- Maintain accurate case records using the JIGSAW case management system.
- Deliver a professional, customer-focused and trauma-informed service.
Requirements
- Experience working as a Homeless Prevention Officer, Housing Options Officer or within a Homelessness Service.
- Excellent knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- Experience managing complex homelessness cases and making statutory decisions.
- Working knowledge and experience of using the JIGSAW case management system (essential).
- Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals and families using a person-centred approach.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and work effectively under pressure.
