Contract to start ASAP until 30-10-26 with a possible extension.

Job Purpose

As an authoritative professional, the Independent Reviewing Officer is required to chair all statutory review meetings for Looked after Children, ensuring that the voice and experiences of the child are central.

The role is accountable for ensuring that decisions and recommendations consider need, risk, and harm, and that plans prioritise children's wellbeing and best interests.

The role must also constructively challenge the effectiveness and quality of service and use statutory powers to escalate to senior management, including up to the Chief Executive level and CAFCASS where appropriate.

The Job Description is inclusive of the function to chair Foster Carer Annual Reviews.

The Independent Reviewing Officer champions social work values, contributing to the continuous development and improvement of practice and outcomes for children in Hackney, ensuring high-quality social work intervention for those in need of care and protection.
