Duration: 4 weeks with a possible extension.

Job Purpose

To maintain and enhance Preston City Council's parks, gardens, sports grounds, cemeteries, and other public green spaces to a high standard.

The Gardener will undertake horticultural and grounds maintenance duties to ensure attractive, safe, and sustainable outdoor environments for residents and visitors.

Responsibilities

Carry out routine maintenance of parks, gardens, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and landscaped areas.

Plant, cultivate, water, weed, prune, and maintain seasonal bedding displays and ornamental plants.

Mow lawns, trim hedges, edge grass, and maintain sports pitches and public open spces.

Operate and maintain horticultural machinery and equipment, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and leaf blowers.

Apply fertilisers, weed control, and plant protection treatments in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Assist with tree and shrub maintenance, including pruning and planting.

Remove litter, leaves, and garden waste from public areas.

Inspect parks and green spaces, reporting hazards, damage, vandalism, or maintenance issues.

Support the preparation and maintenance of seasonal floral displays and landscaping projects.

Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with Council policies and procedures.

Provide courteous assistance and information to members of the public when required.

Assist with winter maintenance duties and other environmental service activities as required.

Full UK Driving Licence
