Domestic Abuse Intervention Officer
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 13-07-26 with a possible extension.
JOB PURPOSE
This post is key to developing Hackney's model of domestic abuse intervention in line with the Council's Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. Hackney's service model uses an approach that is innovative, pragmatic, holistic and robust in working with victims and, where needed, with perpetrators
Responsibilities:
To understand the context of domestic abuse, gendered violence, power and control and to design and implement case interventions accordingly
To undertake pro-active case work to reduce risk and make victims safe including visiting in the community and at home as needed, undertaking assertive outreach work to engage multiple-needs / hard-to-reach victims, working jointly with partner agencies, participating in and chairing case reviews, reporting to Court and other forums, delivering actions within timescales, advocating for victims and meeting agreed targets
To work closely with criminal justice and other partner agencies to reduce the harm caused by perpetrators of abuse through engagement, disruption and sanction and for the risks posed by perpetrators in the community to be managed.
To undertake interviews with victims, their families where appropriate and perpetrators of abuse as needed, to analyse and evaluate information to provide a holistic assessment of risk and need.
To assess and balance risk and protective factors within a legislative, theoretical, best practice and policy framework.
To communicate effectively with victims, their families where appropriate and perpetrators as needed, ensuring that their views are heard and recorded accurately
To establish rapport and build a respectful, honest and safe relationship with victims, their families where appropriate and perpetrators as needed
To provide and present written and verbal reports which are concise, informative and based on analysis of complex evidence
To ensure that victims and perpetrators as needed are provided with written reports about their circumstances and plans for intervention
To review and reassess evidence when necessary and ensure safety planning for victims is informed by new information
To devise written intervention plans regarding victims of domestic abuse and perpetrators as needed based on assessed need and risk
