Job Purpose

The Refuse Loader is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient collection of household, recycling, and commercial waste across the local authority area.

The role involves working as part of a refuse collection team, ensuring waste is collected in accordance with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and council procedures.

Responsibilities

Collect household and commercial waste, recycling, and green waste from designated routes.

Load refuse and recycling materials onto collection vehicles safely and efficiently.

Assist the driver with navigation and safe manoeuvring of vehicles where required.

Return bins and containers to the appropriate location after collection.

Ensure all collections are completed within scheduled timescales.

Report missed collections, contaminated recycling, spillages, or damaged bins to supervisors.

Maintain high standards of customer service when interacting with residents and members of the public.

Follow manual handling procedures and safe working practices at all times.

Assist with cleaning and basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

Support additional environmental and cleansing duties when required.
