Job Description:

Contract to start ASAP until 26-06-26 with a possible extension.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide high quality legal advice, assistance and representation to Client Departments having due regard to all Council policies, the Constitution and professional conduct rules and discharging the professional duties of a qualified lawyer to the clients and the court.

Efficiently and effectively deal with case work for client departments as required.

Attend and advise professional meetings, Council Committees, working groups and briefing meetings as required

Act as an advocate representing the Council at court hearings, tribunals and public enquiries.

Support and cover for staff, to participate in and conduct performance reviews, to identify training needs and in general to make an effective contribution to the quality management and operation of Legal Services.

Provide accurate legal advice, guidance and comment within reports or otherwise to officers to ensure decision makers are fully informed

Provide an appropriate level of professional guidance and advice to members, senior officers and external organisations including:

Contributing to the development of policies and their implementation in a manner that meets statutory requirements and provides efficient and effective services.

Preparation and presentation of reports to committees, working groups and seminars

Provision of sound legal advice to meetings of the Council and its committees.

To contribute to the development, to implement and promote and maintenance of service level agreements with Client Departments and external agencies

Delivery of training to Members, Council Departments and external partners and agencies

Promote compliance with the Council's constitution, policies and procedures

Promote the objectives, visions and values of the Department, Resources Portfolio and the Council

Adhere to Council policies and procedures relating to equality and diversity, information governance and data protection.

Expected to work outside office hours to meet the needs of the service and attend meetings and participate in training evens as and when required.

Required to provide face to face contact with members of the public/service users, some of whom are vulnerable or may pose risk and may involve lone working.

Understand and comply with the City Council's environmental policies.

Comply with all Health & Safety policies and legislation in performance of the duties of the post.

Work with information technology and associated systems in accordance with the City Council's policies & procedures.

Comply with standing orders, financial regulations, and Departmental instructions.

Carry out duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with the City Council's Equality and Diversity policy.

Take part in the Councils Managing individual Performance Scheme and achieve the required standards.
