Job Description:

Contract to start ASAP until 21-10-26 with a possible extension.

We are seeking an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join a proactive team dedicated to protecting consumers, supporting legitimate businesses and ensuring compliance with Trading Standards legislation.

In this role, you will investigate consumer protection matters, carry out inspections, provide advice to businesses and residents, and take enforcement action where necessary. You will work closely with partner agencies, lead investigations and projects, and contribute to creating a fair and safe trading environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Enforce Trading Standards legislation through inspections, investigations and compliance activities.
• Conduct complex investigations, prepare case files and attend court where required.
• Provide advice and guidance to businesses, consumers and partner organisations.
• Lead and support multi-agency investigations and enforcement projects.
• Collect, assess and share intelligence to support enforcement priorities.
• Act as a Primary Authority liaison officer where designated.
• Mentor and support colleagues, delivering training where required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and best practice.
• Deputise for the Team Manager when required.

Requirements

• Experience working within a Trading Standards environment.
• Strong knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and enforcement procedures.
• Experience conducting investigations and preparing evidence for legal proceedings.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
• Experience working with partner agencies and businesses.
• Relevant Trading Standards qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
