Building Surveyor - Legal Disrepair
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 27-04-26 with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
The Building Surveyor – Legal Disrepair will be responsible for managing and resolving housing disrepair cases, particularly those involving legal claims.
The role focuses on inspecting properties, identifying defects, coordinating remedial works, and ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual obligations to protect the Councils interests and improve housing conditions for residents.
Responsibilities
Carry out detailed inspections of residential properties in response to legal disrepair claims and complaints.
Diagnose building defects, including damp, mould, structural issues, and general disrepair.
Prepare technical reports, schedules of works, and expert witness statements for legal proceedings.
Liaise with legal services, housing officers, contractors, and residents to resolve disrepair cases efficiently.
Manage and monitor contractors performance to ensure works are completed to agreed standards, timescales, and budgets.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety regulations, and building standards.
Provide professional advice on building maintenance, repairs, and asset management.
Attend court hearings, tribunals, and case conferences when required.
Maintain accurate records, case files, and inspection reports using Council systems.
Support the development of policies and procedures related to housing disrepair and property standards.
