Job Purpose

The HGV Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy goods vehicles in support of council services across the district.

The role involves transporting materials, waste, recycling, equipment, and other resources while ensuring compliance with road safety legislation, environmental standards, and council procedures.

Responsibilities

Operate HGV vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations.

Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report defects, faults, or maintenance issues promptly.

Collect, transport, and deliver waste, recycling, equipment, and other materials as required.

Ensure loads are secured correctly and transported safely.

Maintain accurate driving logs, vehicle records, and delivery documentation.

Assist loading crews and other operational staff when required.

Follow health and safety procedures, including manual handling and safe driving practices.

Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicles.

Provide excellent customer service when interacting with residents, contractors, and members of the public.

• Valid HGV/LGV Class 2 or Class 1 driving licence.
