Workshop Technician
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 13-09-26 with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
The Workshop Technician is responsible for carrying out the inspection, servicing, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the Council's fleet of vehicles, plant, and associated equipment.
The role ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications, legislative requirements, and Council policies to maintain a reliable and compliant fleet.
Responsibilities
Perform routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
Carry out vehicle inspections and safety checks in accordance with legal and manufacturer standards.
Undertake MOT preparation and ensure vehicles meet roadworthiness requirements.
Replace or repair defective components using approved methods and quality standards.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, job sheets, inspection reports, and parts usage documentation.
Ensure all work is completed within agreed timescales while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Follow health and safety procedures, including safe use of workshop equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment.
Assist with roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
Liaise with supervisors, fleet management staff, and suppliers regarding repair requirements and parts availability.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency and service delivery.
Full, valid UK driving licence
