We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lawyer to join a Local Authority Legal Services team on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial and procurement matters, supporting the Council and its partner District Councils on high-profile projects.

This is a full-time, remote role, with only occasional office attendance required depending on your location. Initially offered for 3 months, there is a strong possibility of extension for the right candidate.

You will become an integral part of a supportive legal team, advising on commercial contracts, procurement, framework agreements, construction projects and subsidy control matters while delivering practical legal solutions to internal clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on commercial contracts and procurement matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements.
• Advise on public procurement legislation and framework agreements.
• Support construction and infrastructure projects.
• Provide legal advice on collaborative procurements and subsidy control.
• Work closely with Council departments and partner District Councils.
• Manage a varied caseload while meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality legal advice.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate.
• Minimum 3 years' PQE in Commercial Contracts and Procurement Law.
• Experience advising on commercial and procurement matters, ideally within Local Government or the public sector.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and advisory skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
