Trading Standards Investigator
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP
Duration: 52 weeks with a possible extension.
Job Purpose:
To support the Trading Standards service by investigating complaints and potential breaches of consumer protection, fair trading, and product safety legislation.
The role involves gathering evidence, conducting inspections, and working with businesses and members of the public to ensure compliance with trading standards laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
Investigate complaints from consumers and businesses relating to unfair trading practices, scams, counterfeit goods, product safety, and pricing issues.
Conduct inspections of business premises, markets, and online trading activities to ensure compliance with trading standards legislation.
Collect and preserve evidence, take witness statements, and prepare case files for potential legal proceedings.
Work with partner agencies such as the police, regulatory bodies, and other local authorities on joint investigations.
Provide advice and guidance to businesses on consumer protection laws and best practice.
Support enforcement actions including warnings, notices, and prosecutions where necessary.
Maintain accurate records of investigations and ensure case management systems are updated.
Participate in test purchasing operations and surveillance activities where appropriate.
