Highways Supervisor
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP until 28-08-26 with a possible extension.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Scheduling and resource planning repairs and schemes with appropriate teams, aligning tasks with their skillsets and availability to meet agreed timescales
Secure necessary permits, plant, and materials for projects, in consultation with Highway Team Leaders and Delivery Managers.
Coordinate cyclical maintenance activities and joint improvement initiatives, to ensure highway assets operate at optimal performanceSupervise highway work and operatives, agency workers and contractors, ensuring compliance with robust health and safety processes.
Audit gangs for punctuality, site safety, productivity and quality workmanship. Record findings in asset management systems to ensure adherence to standards.
Assist with client quoting and scoping, including conducting site visits and communicating throughout the duration of schemes.
Assist with developing, monitoring and updating standard operating procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements, to ensure alignment with corporate policies and industry standards, contributing practical insights and experience
Assist with operational briefings and depot/vehicle inspections, reviewing productivity and compliance from previous shifts to inform planning for the day ahead.
Assist with recruitment processes and support training initiatives, working with the Versatility Matrix to promote Team Leader, Operative and Apprentice development.
Lead and motivate frontline teams on various highway tasks and projects, providing support, praise, and constructive feedback.
Challenge poor conduct, low productivity or substandard work, escalating issues when necessary.
Assist the Highway Delivery Manager in completing annual performance appraisals for Highway Team Leaders, Operatives and Apprentices, highlighting growth achieved and areas for development.
Participate in the Council's Great Performance Conversation appraisal, providing feedback on your own annual performance and goals for future development.
Attend refresher training as needed, including health and safety and use of equipment.
Assist in responding to highway emergencies when required.
Be on call for out-of-hours winter operational standby duties and weekend/evening scheme delivery supervision when required.
