Accomodation Officer
Job Description:
Contract to start ASAP
Duration: 26 weeks with a possible extension.
Job Purpose
To maximise rental income across the Council's temporary accommodation portfolio by managing rent accounts, supporting benefit claims, preventing rent arrears and helping residents sustain their accommodation through effective income management and financial support.
Responsibilities
Manage rent accounts and ensure accommodation charges are applied accurately.
Maximise income through Housing Benefit, Universal Credit Housing Costs and other welfare entitlements.
Monitor, prevent and recover rent arrears through early intervention and payment arrangements.
Work with residents to provide advice on rent liabilities, benefits and budgeting.
Liaise with Housing Benefit, DWP and partner agencies to resolve payment and benefit issues.
Maintain accurate records of rent accounts, payments, arrears actions and benefit claims.
Monitor rent collection performance and identify areas of financial risk.
Support residents to sustain their accommodation by identifying financial difficulties and referring to appropriate support services.
Work closely with Accommodation Officers to ensure occupation contracts and accommodation charges are administered correctly.
Respond professionally to enquiries, complaints and requests relating to rents, benefits and accommodation charges.
Contribute to service improvements, policy development and income maximisation initiatives.
Carry out duties in accordance with relevant housing, welfare benefit and data protection legislation.
