Job Purpose

The Deputy Head of Building Control supports the strategic and operational management of the Building Control service, ensuring compliance with building regulations, legislation, and associated standards.

The role involves leading teams, overseeing complex building control projects, supporting service development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused regulatory services.

Responsibilities

Support the Head of Building Control in managing the daily operations of the Building Control service.

Lead and supervise Building Control Surveyors and technical staff to ensure effective service delivery.

Oversee the assessment and approval of building regulation applications, plans, inspections, and compliance activities.

Provide expert professional advice on complex building control, construction, fire safety, and regulatory matters.

Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, and associated legislation.

Manage high-risk, complex, and major development projects across the borough.

Monitor service performance, quality standards, budgets, and operational targets.

Develop and implement service improvements, policies, and procedures.

Represent the council at meetings with developers, contractors, architects, residents, and external agencies.
