Job Purpose
The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for protecting public health and ensuring compliance with environmental health legislation across the borough.
The role involves carrying out inspections, investigations, enforcement activities, and providing professional advice on environmental health matters including food safety, housing standards, pollution control, public health, and licensing.
Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of commercial premises, residential properties, and public spaces to ensure compliance with environmental health legislation.
Investigate complaints relating to noise nuisance, pollution, housing conditions, pests, food hygiene, and public health concerns.
Carry out food hygiene inspections and ensure food businesses comply with relevant regulations.
Investigate statutory nuisances and recommend appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
Prepare legal notices, reports, witness statements, and evidence for enforcement proceedings.
Provide professional advice and guidance to businesses, residents, landlords, and stakeholders.
Monitor and enforce standards relating to health and safety, housing, environmental protection, and licensing.
Maintain accurate case records, inspection reports, and database information.
Work collaboratively with internal departments, emergency services, and external agencies.
Support public health initiatives, emergency response activities, and service improvement projects.
Full UK driving licence or ability to travel across the borough
