Role Purpose

The AWS Technical Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The role supports the Councils digital transformation strategy by ensuring cloud architecture aligns with business objectives, governance standards, and best practice, while delivering high-quality technical solutions for public sector services.

Responsibilities

Design and lead the implementation of AWS cloud architectures that are secure, cost-effective, scalable, and highly available.

Act as the technical authority for AWS solutions, providing architectural guidance and assurance across multiple projects and services.

Work closely with business stakeholders, project managers, developers, and infrastructure teams to translate requirements into robust cloud solutions.

Define cloud standards, patterns, and best practices in line with AWS Well-Architected Framework and local authority governance requirements.

Ensure compliance with security, data protection, and regulatory standards including GDPR, PSN, and UK public sector security principles.

Lead cloud migration activities, including re-platforming, re-architecting, and modernisation of legacy systems.

Implement and oversee DevOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and automation using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
