Job Purpose
The Commercial Vehicle Technician is responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of council fleet vehicles and associated equipment.
The role ensures that all commercial vehicles are maintained to legal, safety, and operational standards to support the effective delivery of council services.
Responsibilities
Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial vehicles and fleet equipment.
Inspect vehicles to DVSA and manufacturer standards.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
Complete MOT preparation and undertake safety inspections.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance work are completed efficiently and within agreed timescales.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection sheets, and job reports.
Support breakdown response and emergency vehicle repairs where required.
Ensure workshop tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained in a safe and clean condition.
Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe working practices and use of PPE.
Assist with maintaining stock levels of workshop parts and materials.
Work collaboratively with drivers, supervisors, and fleet management teams to minimise vehicle downtime.
